History of the breed: The Red Lincoln cow is one of the oldest beef breeds in the UK, closely linked to the history of Lincolnshire in the northeast of England. The exact date of the breed's emergence before 1695 is unknown, but it is believed that its ancestors share genetic similarities with primitive bulls known as aurochs (Bos primigenius), which were brought to Britain by invaders from Scandinavia between 449 and 660 AD. The first documented mention of Lincolnshire cattle appears in Gervase Markham's book "A way to get wealth," published in 1695. In the late 18th and early 19th centuries, crossbreeding with breeds such as Cherry-red Durhams and York Shorthorns was conducted to improve the characteristics of local cattle. This led to the breeding of the Lincoln Red Shorthorn, which became the foundation for the further development of the breed. Between 1904 and 1914, 774 heads of Lincoln Red cattle were exported to 20 countries, indicating the growing popularity of the breed abroad. From 1939 to 1960, selection for polledness, or the absence of horns, was carried out on Lincoln Red cattle. During this period, a decision was made to change the breed's name, removing the word "Shorthorn" and retaining only "Lincoln Red Cattle." The breed was registered in the herd book separately from other shorthorns in 1896. In 1946, two types emerged from Lincoln Red cattle: beef and dual-purpose. However, since the 1950s, the beef direction has dominated, and the last registration of dairy herds using Lincoln Red cattle was recorded in 1965. In the 1970s and 80s, with the arrival of continental breeds, the popularity of Lincoln Red cattle began to decline. To improve conformation and increase the amount of lean meat, Lincoln Red cattle were crossed with European breeds, leading to a decrease in the number of purebred individuals. Today, the number of purebred representatives of the breed is less than 500, and they are protected by the British Rare Breeds Survival Trust. Exterior: Red Lincoln cows have a strong and compact build. Their body is well-developed, with a broad forehead and muzzle. The coat color varies from dark cherry to red, evenly distributed across the body, giving the animal a bright and attractive appearance. Although most modern cows of this breed are polled, horned individuals can also be found.

Diet: The basis of the nutrition for the Red Lincoln cow consists of high-quality feeds such as hay, silage, and grain mixtures. During pregnancy, it is important to increase the amount of feed that contains proteins and minerals to support the health of the mother and the developing fetus. Calves, starting from the first days of life, are fed with maternal milk. Later, as they grow, they gradually begin to transition to concentrated feeds and hay for proper growth and development.
